day 4—if walls could talk

Give a man a rock...
Give a man a rock...

Today we decided to go on the Hole n’ the Rock tour. I honestly had no idea what to expect, but I was soon charmed by the eccentricity of it all. First off: Harry the stuffed donkey. Harry had seen some things. The man was a legend. You could practically feel Gladys and Albert's love for him and each other.

As we wandered through the quaint home, I couldn’t help but notice all the trinkets. There were tiny wooden carvings, old-timey photos, and porcelain frogs that looked like they belonged in a dollhouse rather than a desert. But there was something about it all that felt so genuine.

The entire place, adorned with peculiar collections and cozy elements, was a testament to the love and dedication of Gladys and Albert. Their passion transformed a quirky roadside spot into something truly memorable.

Our next destination was Canyonlands. I had no idea what to expect beyond a massive hole in the ground, but the scenery left me in awe—it was incredibly expansive and majestic. The rock colors shifted with the light, ranging from vibrant reds to deep purples, and the vistas seemed to go on forever.

Trent, feeling antsy, decided to go for a run on one of the trails while I wanted to curl up and read.

Before heading out, he asked, “Where’s the face shampoo?” and I nearly lost it laughing.

“Do you mean the sunscreen?” I asked, still giggling. “Oh... right,” he said sheepishly.

By late afternoon, we arrived at Willow Flat Campground and had settled in. Feeling comfortable, we decided to set up our projector for the first time.

As we watched Squid Games 2, I couldn’t help but reflect on the remarkable journey we’ve undertaken physically, mentally, and emotionally. Despite being so far from home and in a completely different environment, we found ourselves exactly where we were meant to be.

Here's to more of the unexpected.
